Friends Community School teaches young people to be life-long learners, courageous risk takers, and joyous peacemakers; to discover that of God within themselves and others; and to reach their fullest potential as individuals and as contributing members of society. A Quaker school, we welcome students of all beliefs, offer developmentally appropriate, experiential and vigorous curricula, and actively express environmental stewardship as a core value.
FCS moved into our permanent "green" home in September 2007. The facility and grounds are adjacent to National Park Service land in Greenbelt. It is a fabulous facility in a spectacular natural setting that has permitted us to expand our academic, extra-curricular and summer programs. And it is the largest known straw bale insulated building in the world!

** GROUNDBREAKING IN THE GAZETTE **
The FCS community held a groundbreaking for the additional classrooms, stage, science lab, art studio, and middle school lockers at the Fall Fair on October 28, 2012. We celebrated this happy day with an African drumming performance by 5th graders, and group song. With thanks to all who generously contributed to the Green and Growing Campaign to make the project possible. Read about it in the Gazette
