Substitute Teachers

FCS is seeking Lower School (K-4th grade) and Middle School (5th-8th grade) substitute teachers for partial- and full-day assignments. The Substitute Teacher plays a vital role in maintaining classroom continuity in the absence of the regular teacher. They ensure that students remain engaged in their learning by delivering lesson plans, facilitating classroom activities, and managing student behavior. The Substitute Teacher needs to adapt quickly to different classroom environments and grade levels, often with little advance notice. Their ability to create a positive and productive learning atmosphere, while fostering respect and maintaining classroom norms, is crucial. Flexibility, strong communication skills, and the ability to connect with students are key attributes of a successful substitute teacher at FCS. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow lesson plans left by the teacher.
  • Manage classroom behavior,
  • Facilitate instruction.
  • Maintain a safe, productive learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and, in some cases, parents.
  • Provide feedback to the returning teacher.
  • Flexible
  • Good classroom management skills
  • Positive attitude

Schedule:
  • On call

Qualifications Desired and/or Required
  • A minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited college or university
  • 6-12 months of experience working with (required)
  • Must pass state/FBI criminal background investigation
  • Degree in education or experience working with youth is preferred
