There are many things that I learned in my time at FCS—both in terms of intellectual and personal formation. What really stands out (even after many years), however, was the emphasis on developing compassion and embracing our differences within the community. "Treat others how you want to be treated” was never an idle maxim in class, play, stories, and more; teachers worked to model how we could put these words into practice in meaningful ways.
I remember experiences and lessons from four or five different FCS teachers whom I still hold in high regard. To name one in particular, I’ll take the easy (but no less true) way out and say Jane [Jane Manring, founding head of school]. Like others, I’m sure, I still have the painting she gave me when I graduated. I was struck by how unfailingly kind she always was, a legacy that endures for many who knew her.
I love reading: books, stories, novels, poetry, drama, and more.
In my spare time, I do a lot of cycling, reading, and chasing squirrels with my dog.
