Persuading Parents with Writing

Students in Michelle Utara’s 1/2 class have been exploring the power of writing and their parents are about to be the recipients of some persuasive words. The current writing unit focuses on using compelling language to sway the thinking of a reader.
“My goal for this project is that the children are able to come up with at least three reasons why they are trying to trying to persuade their reader.” Michelle explained. “I also want them to learn how to write a letter.”

Students thought about something they really wanted to convince their parents to do. This included everything from increasing an allowance to building a fort. Then they wrote letters with their arguments, addressed and stamped envelopes, and sent their words on their way home via the US Mail!
