6th Graders Visit a Mesopotamia Museum
Sixth graders in Terrance Smith’s Social Studies class studied ancient Mesopotamia in the fall. That unit concluded with a “Shark Tank” project in which they pitched various inventions of the time period to a panel of FCS community members. Last week they had the opportunity to see how students at the Lab School in Washington, DC explored the features of this early civilization.
They met students at the school who served as tour guides, leading our 6th graders through a museum they’d created.
The Lab School has an “Intermediate Museum Club” in which student participants become curators of the school’s museum space. For their current project they “combed through the history of Mesopotamia and decided which artifacts to replicate, to exhibit, and how to express history's stories from this ancient era.”
FCS students were intrigued by what they saw and noted the inventions on display that had also been part of their Shark Tank pitches. Teachers from both schools had the opportunity to connect and exchange ideas about the content they will be teaching in the coming months.
